Brachiopods are know as living fossils since few species are still living today. They were abundant in the Paleozoic Era now the fossils are found in Paleozoic rocks and limestone deposits throughout the world. They decreased in numbers during the Permian extinctions. Brachiopods consist of two part shells or valves that have fossilized. Fossils are found in various shapes and sizes throughout the world.
